Information about Divine Child High School Drama Club

Divine Child High School is the largest Catholic Co-ed high school in the state of Michigan.  The theater department has been a member of the Educational Theater Association since the mid 1970's, and has performed at the International Thespian Festival in Lincoln, Nebraska five times, and students have performed at the State conferences every year since 1993.  The department won the National award for publicity and promotion of the Theater in Our Schools campaign in 2001.  The program has also been recognized four times by the administrators of the Fringe Festival in Scotland, by nominating the school to perform with the American Theater Festival.  Director Karen Pritchard has been inducted into the Dearborn Theater Hall of Fame, and has received the Mayor's Arts Educator of the Year award.  She has also been nominated for the Disney Teacher of the year award, and appears in Who's Who in Teaching six different years.  Both P. Michael Foye and Jackie Bacus are also members of the Dearborn Theater Hall of Fame.  The students, directors, and designers have won numerous PAGE awards from best production to best director since its inception.  A typical season consists of a full length play in the fall, a musical in the spring, student directed one acts, a touring children's show, and a competition show to bring to festivals.  The school has an Internation Thespian society, honoring theater arts, and a drama club, with over 125 members.

Trick Or Treat So Kids Can Eat
"Because Hunger is a Very Scary Thing"
TOTS-EAT is the International Thespian Society’s (ITS) annual community service initiative to collect food for the less fortunate. Because it’s just before the holiday season, many local charities and food banks experience significant shortages in October. Theatre students (Thespians) across the United States team up throughout the month of October to fight hunger in their communities.

This year at Divine Child, the ITS, Student Council, and NHS have combined efforts to conduct a month-long can drive for “Trick or Treat So Kids Can Eat”.  We are asking for the cooperation of both the faculty and the students for this event.  The schedule is as follows.

Mrs. Pritchard, Mary Sheila, Tess Ulrey, Kat Kohn, Michael DeSouza, Dan Beard, and Greg Kramarz attended the National Thespian Festival early this summer in Lincoln, Nebraska.  They had a great time and learned many valuable lessons at the workshops.  Thespians will once again visit the National Festival this coming summer, so fundraising will be essential.  Start coming up with good ideas to make us some money and be ready to share!
